FAQ

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ROTATIONAL MOULDING OF PLASTIC MATERIALS

1. What is rotational moulding?

Rotational moulding is a manufacturing process used to produce hollow plastic components made from materials such as polyethylene and polypropylene. Plastic powder is loaded into a closed mould that rotates biaxially inside an oven. The heat causes the material to melt and form a uniform layer along the internal surfaces. Once cooled, the mould is opened and the part is removed for finishing and final quality inspection.

2. Which materials can be used in rotational moulding?

The process primarily uses polyolefins such as LDPE, HDPE, and LLDPE, including cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). Other applicable materials include polypropylene, PA12, polycarbonate (PC), and PA6. The choice of resin depends on the required mechanical properties, durability, and final application.

3. Which industries do you serve with your rotationally moulded plastic components?

Moulding Service, headquartered in Fiorano Modenese (MO), supplies components to a wide range of sectors, including automotive, material handling, biomedical, industrial cleaning, nautical, energy, furniture, and agritech industries.

4. Why choose rotational moulding over other manufacturing technologies?

Rotational moulding enables the production of robust, lightweight, seamless parts with large dimensions and complex geometries. It is particularly suited to customized, medium- and small-scale production runs.

5. How long does the production cycle take?

The processing time varies depending on the geometry and type of material. Typically, a full cycle (heating and cooling) takes between 60 and 90 minutes. Moulding Service offers tailored lead times and fast quoting services.

6. Do you also provide mould design and manufacturing?

Yes, we offer full support for mould development, including aluminium mould design, co-design, prototyping, and optimization. We assist customers from the initial concept through to full-scale production.
